Author commentary
Author commentary on Roberta Maselli et al.
Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has been advocated for treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) neoplasia. This multicenter Italian study examined the outcome of ESD for such lesions. En bloc and curative resection rates were high (96 % and 83 %, respectively), despite a high rate of high grade dysplasia and cancer (53 %). Recurrence among those who did not require surgery was only 3 %. Overall, ESD for IBD neoplasia appeared safe and effective in expert hands, and may be considered as first-line treatment.
