Natalie Halvorsen et al. Leaving colorectal polyps in situ with endocytoscopy assisted
by computer-aided diagnosis: a cost-effectiveness study
A leave-in-situ strategy for rectosigmoid hyperplastic polyps may reduce pathology
costs but requires accurate endoscopic diagnosis for implementation. This retrospective
analysis of data from a large multicenter endocytoscope computer-aided diagnosis (CADx)
trial examined costs and surveillance interval recommendations across three strategies:
leave-in-situ strategies with and without CADx, and removal of all colonic polyps.
The two leave-in-situ strategies reduced colonoscopy costs by a similar amount, with
minimal impact on surveillance intervals.
