Megan Oleksiw et al. Computer-assisted optical diagnosis of colorectal polyps up to 10 mm

A potential use of computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) for colorectal polyps is to avoid histopathology costs. This post hoc exploratory analysis of a previously reported randomized controlled trial found that CADx-assisted optical diagnosis met the resect-and discard PIVI1 threshold, but only for polyps up to 3 mm. The diagnose-and-leave PIVI2 threshold for rectosigmoid polyps was met for all sizes up to 10 mm. Surveillance intervals were accurate when optical diagnosis was used for polyps up to 3mm, but were sometimes inaccurate for larger sized polyps owing to the higher prevalence of advanced histology.
