Author commentary on Olaolu Olabintan et al.
Although artificial intelligence systems are developed to improve efficiency, the environmental impact of their use is unknown. In this analysis of 1134 patients undergoing colonoscopy with a leave-in-situ strategy, the use of computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) produced 0.10 kgCO2eq more than colonoscopy without CADx. Further work is required to establish the impact of these emerging technologies on the carbon footprint of colonoscopy.
