Abstract
Two genetically related cases of HUNT's disease are reported. The first case is a 4 years old boy, who after two years of apparently normal development started a progressive disease characterized by actionmyoclonia, intentiontremor, adiadochokinesia, dyssynergia, dysmetria, muscular hypotonia and intermittent asthenia. We observed a severe retardation of speech with dysarthria and a slight mental retardation. The EEG showed generalized poly-spike-wave-complexes.
In a second case, a 26 years old man the disease started in early childhood and developed progressivly to the present state of complete inability to walk and talk. The symptomatology comprised actionmyoclonia, spastic tetraplegia with FRIEDREICH-foot and severe dementia. There were no paroxysmal changes in the EEG.
The authors discuss the genetic nature of the disease and the problems of symptomatology and classification.
