We are living in an age of elevating patient demands and increased awareness of self-aesthetics, particularly related to one's genitalia. It is our intent in putting together this very comprehensive issue of aesthetic and functional genital and perineal surgery issue for Seminars in Plastic Surgery to more critically and scientifically address many of the procedures that are performed in this sensitive area of the body. The collaborative experience of many varied surgical and nonsurgical specialties was essential to provide the latest and most comprehensive guide to surgery in the genital and perineal region.

Each issue (female and male) will start with an intense review of the normal external and internal anatomy with associated reconstructive considerations in their surgical management. This is then followed by current state of the art aesthetic procedures commonly performed by many varied specialties and ways to manage their complications. The diagnosis and management of congenital and acquired pathology of the genitalia and perineum will finally be addressed, which will hopefully serve to instruct and guide the reader into accepting these challenging problems in their normal practice.

We would like to express our sincere and deep gratitude to the many national and international experts in this challenging field who shared with us their vast experience in the management of these very difficult problems. This issue should serve as a very valuable resource for your resident or personal library for some years to come.
