Zusammenfassung

Der Artikel gibt einen Überblick über die prämenstruelle dysphorische Störung (PMDS) und deren klinische Relevanz. Die Abgrenzung zum verallgemeinernden Begriff des prämenstruellen Syndroms soll verdeutlicht werden. Das PMDS ist aufgrund der dargestellten wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisse zur Epidemiologie, Ätiologie, Symptomatik und Therapie als eigenständiges Störungsbild zu werten, welches nach sachgerechter Diagnose und Therapie eine gute Prognose aufweist. Die vermittelten Informationen sollen helfen, die PMDS bewusster in die psychiatrische Differenzialdiagnostik zu integrieren und praktische Anleitungen für Diagnostik und Therapie aufzeigen.

Abstract

This paper provides an overview of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and its clinical relevance in differentiation to premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Regarding recent research on epidemiology, aetiology, symptoms and therapy, PMDD is a discrete disorder and has a good prognosis in cases of appropriate diagnosis and therapy. The information provided in this review will help to better integrate PMDD into the psychiatric diagnostic process; options for diagnosis and treatment are also presented.
