Abstract

This article introduces the hamulus incisive papilla plane and the myocentric as an alternative concept for functional oriented diagnostics in orthodontics and compares it to current principles.

Analogue or digital model casts are used for individual treatment planning in orthodontic diagnosics, additionally to anamnesis, clinical examination, photography and cephalometric analysis.

The model cast of the upper jaw is trimmed according to the occlusal plane and upper and lower model casts are mounted in habitual occlusal relation.

With such records, functional-diagnostic findings as a tilted occlusal plane, changed torques of teeth or functional premature contacts in unilateral cross- or scissorbite could be camouflaged by the habitual occlusion.

Based on 3 patient examples, functional oriented diagnosis is presented.
