Zusammenfassung

In den Medien finden sich gehäuft Berichte über Patienten im Wachkoma, bei denen die Entscheidung über einen Therapieabbruch öffentlich diskutiert wird. Unabhängig von allen ethischen und rechtlichen Fragen hierzu ist zuallererst eine genaue Diagnostik und Einordnung des Patientenzustands nötig. Die hierfür erforderlichen Begrifflichkeiten und klinischen Diagnosemöglichkeiten soll dieser Artikel aufzeigen.
