Dear readers, authors and friends of Endoscopy,

Although 2015 was not a year of groundbreaking new endoscopic developments, we saw again an increasing number of manuscripts submitted to Endoscopy. The year 2015 can probably best be summed up by the conclusion that the fundamentals of endoscopy have been further strengthened. Endoscopy was right at the center of this, with articles on quality improvement in endoscopy, on teaching and training the next generation of endoscopists and on some new technologies, but particularly on new indications for established techniques and on long-term follow-up results.

The Editors have welcomed two new faces to the core team. Both Maria Pellise from Barcelona, Spain and Mouen Khashab from Baltimore, USA will reinforce our team with their expertise. Unfortunately we said goodbye to René Laugier, who is going to enjoy a well-deserved retirement. I would like to warmly thank René for the considerate and knowledgeable support he has given to the journal.

Endoscopy constantly aims to introduce new features that may help authors to easily submit papers. The recently introduced “Submit&Go” portal in Scholar One substantially reduces the time required for submission. Furthermore, measures in the reviewing process are already reducing the turnaround time of submitted manuscripts.

After much consideration, we have decided to discontinue the case report section. This will be a disappointment to some of you. However, the Cases and Techniques Library page in our monthly issue will be expanded to show at least six top papers of the month. It will not come as a surprise that an illustrative video for these cases is a prerequisite!

Endoscopy will become even more active on Facebook. Our social media editors, Klaus Mönkemüller and Ioannis Papanikolaou will regularly select findings, illustrations and videos that highlight a specific technique, technology or outcome, taken from accepted articles. We hope you will enjoy this easy-access way of obtaining information for your daily clinical practice.

Listed on pages 2 and 3 are all colleagues who reviewed for Endoscopy in 2015. I would like to thank all of you for providing us with your evaluations and recommendations, which tremendously help in keeping the quality of our journal at a high standard. Finally, I would like to thank the authors who submitted their work to Endoscopy.

On behalf of the Editorial team and the Editorial Office I wish you a happy, productive and curious 2016!
