Dr. Kyle Cologne is a staff Colon and Rectal Surgeon and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA. Kyle was born in Los Angeles, received both his undergraduate (Economics) and medical school training at the University of Southern California (USC), and subsequently performed his General Surgery Residency training at the Rush University/Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He then went back to Los Angeles, and after completing his Colon and Rectal Surgery Residency training at USC, he has stayed on as staff ever since. He also currently serves as the Associate Program Director for the Colon and Rectal Fellowship.

Kyle is a busy clinician and academic surgeon, as well as an active researcher. His clinical interests included rectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, and he has a strong interest in studying cost-effective medicine. He has written several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. In addition, he has been involved with many national and local-regional society committees, and currently is the chair of the Social Media Committee and has served as the vice-chair for the Public Relations Committee for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He also serves on the Editorial Board for DC&R, and is the section editor for Dynamic Articles, Video Vignettes, and even started the DC&R Podcast. I am also pleased to announce that he is the new Social Media Editor for Clinics in Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Kyle and his wife, Dr. Linda Hou, have two sons (Lucas age 6 and Victor age 7 months). When not at work, he enjoys baseball and hiking, traveling, and spending time with his family. Kyle truly understands social media and the powerful aspect it plays into today's world—both within and outside of medicine—and this volume does an outstanding job looking at the benefits and potential downsides of social media. Whether you tweet, blog, hashtag, or post, social media is everywhere and it is important that we understand it.
