Dr. Craig Reickert is a staff Colon and Rectal Surgeon and an Associate Professor of Surgery at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. Craig was born in Michigan, but was raised in the UK where his father was working with the Ford Motor Company. He received his undergraduate and medical school training at the University of Michigan, and subsequently performed his General Surgery Residency training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He went back to Ann Arbor to complete a Surgical Critical Care and ECMO fellowship, prior to leaving the great state and completing his Colon and Rectal Surgery Residency training at Oschner Clinic in New Orleans, LA. Following that, he ventured back to Michigan, where he has risen through the ranks at Henry Ford Hospital, currently serving as the Associate Program Director for the Colon and Rectal Fellowship, Division Head of Colorectal Surgery, and Vice-Chair of Clinical Operations.

Craig is a busy clinician and academic surgeon, as well as an active researcher. He has been very involved in medical student and resident education. In addition to being the Program Director for the fellowship, on a national level he serves as the President-elect of the Association of Program Directors of Colon and Rectal Surgery. In addition to this, he has been involved with many national and local-regional society committees, and is currently the President of the Michigan Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.

Craig and his wife, Eileen, have three sons (21, 19, and 15 years old). He enjoys mentoring robotics teams for high school and middle school, coaching and playing soccer, and has a 2nd degree black belt in taekwondo. On behalf of the readers and staff of Clinics in Colon and Rectal Surgery, I sincerely thank Dr. Reickert for serving as a Guest Editor and for providing us with a superb issue on approaches and treatment for patients with diverticular disease.
