Albträume sind ein relativ weit verbreitetes Phänomen im Kindesund Jugendalter, kommen aber auch bei Erwachsenen vor. Sie können eine psychische Störung darstellen. Ihre Ursachen sind multifaktoriell und umfassen neben Traumata und akuter Stressbelastung auch Persönlichkeitsfaktoren.

Es gibt effektive Behandlungsmöglichkeiten für Albträume, allen voran die Imagery-Rehearsal-Therapie.
