Akupunktur gewinnt weltweit an Popularität unter Patienten und medizinischem Personal. Obwohl diese Methode seit ca. 3000 Jahren bekannt ist, wurde für die ursprüngliche chinesische Theorie energetischer Genese der Akupunkturpunkte und der Meridiane noch keine physiologische Erklärung gefunden

Kernaussagen

  • Akupunktur ist eine Form peripherer sensorischer Stimulation, die zur Aktivierung der segmentalen Inhibitionsmechanismen, supraspinaler diffuser Schmerzhemmung und des antinozizeptiven Systems der endogenen Opiate und deszendierenden Schmerzhemmsysteme führt.

  • Dabei scheint Akupunktur die affektive Verarbeitung des Schmerzes positiv zu beeinflussen. Sie lindert akute postoperative Schmerzen effektiv und verringert den postoperativen Analgetikabedarf.

  • Die beste Evidenz der klinischen Anwendung existiert für die Prävention und Behandlung von postoperativer Übelkeit und Erbrechen, in der Schwangerschaft und bei einer Chemotherapie.

  • Obwohl Akupunktur eine effektive und nebenwirkungsarme Methode zu sein scheint, weisen die Autoren fast aller Publikationen zur klinischen Wirksamkeit auf die unzureichende Qualität der klinischen Studien hin. Hier gibt es also noch einiges zu tun.
