As this final issue of the Journal for 2021 is being published, it is time to think about tuning your skis and planning to attend the sixth World Veterinary Orthopaedic Congress in Snowmass, Colorado. The congress will be held in conjunction with the 49th Veterinary Orthopedic Society annual conference on February 5–12, 2022 under the leadership of Dr José Garcia-López. The program of presentations is very attractive for surgeons committed to staying at the forefront of the latest developments in veterinary orthopaedics and traumatology.

Credit for the idea of a World Veterinary Orthopaedic Congress belongs to the late Professor Geoff Sumner-Smith.[1] Geoff saw the need to promote greater collaboration and interchange between the three organizations of Veterinary Orthopedic Society, European Society of Veterinary Orthopaedics and Traumatology, and the British Veterinary Orthopaedic Association. Being an expat-Brit, originally from the wilds of Lancashire UK, Geoff lived the greater part of his life in Guelph, Ontario in Canada. He was well aware of the “differences” in the approaches to injuries and their management between Europe and North America that ran much deeper than inches or millimeters. So indeed, the First World Veterinary Orthopaedic Congress became a reality in September 5–8, 2002 in Munich at the Ludwig-Maximilian University as a joint collaboration between ESVOT and VOS.[2] Since Munich 20 years ago, the tradition has continued, and I encourage you to join colleagues at the sixth congress for an exciting mix of science, skiing and socializing in Snowmass.
