Die nichtinvasive Beatmung (NIV) kommt am häufigsten bei der akut exazerbierten chronisch obstruktiven Lungenerkrankung (COPD) und dem kardialen Lungenödem zum Einsatz – dabei gilt es Indikationen, Kontraindikationen und Beatmungsstrategien zu beachten. Besonders wichtig ist ein behutsames, schrittweises Vorgehen zu Beginn der NIV, um den Patienten an die Therapie zu gewöhnen.
