On behalf of ESGE, I wish you all a Happy New Year 2017. ESGE has big plans for the years ahead and we hope that these new projects and developments will be highly interesting and relevant for your expertise and practice.

In recent years, ESGE published numerous guidelines covering most areas of endoscopy and sees as its task to now focus on the implementation and dissemination of these important tools for daily praxis in Europe. A five year plan for guidelines will also be established. ESGE, as a society has been growing steadily and counts now nearly 2,000 individual members with 50 national societies cooperating actively. The next step for ESGE will be the launching of new committees or working groups to ensure that the society remains true to its purpose, to promote quality in endoscopy.

The following bodies are currently being established:

Membership working group, Curricula (ESD, Electronic chromoendoscopy, EUS, etc.) working group, eLearning and online seminar working groups, International Committee, Public Affairs working group, Patient relations working group and a Young endoscopists working group.

ESGE will hold its first annual meeting, ESGE Days 2018, in Budapest, Hungary and preparations are in full swing with an excellent panel of experts (www.esgedays.org).

Stay tuned and keep in touch with ESGE activities via Facebook, the ESGE website and newsletters.
