David Karsenti et al. Complete endoscopic sphincterotomy with vs. without large-balloon dilation for the removal of large bile duct stones: randomized multicenter study

This randomized controlled trial compared complete „endoscopic sphincterotomy with vs. without large-balloon dilation, plus mechanical lithotripsy if needed, for large bile duct stones (≥ 13 mm). Stone clearance was significantly higher and the need for mechanical lithotripsy was significantly lower in the balloon dilation group.
