Unexpected finding after polypectomy: a rare case of primary colonic lymphoma
Authors
A 54-year old male presented for screening colonoscopy after a FIT positive test. Colonoscopy showed a large lateral spreading tumor non-granular type (LST-NG Paris 0-IIa) of 35 mm in the sigmoid colon (a – endoscopic appearance after submucosal injection). The tumor was endoscopically resected piece-meal with hot snare (b – endoscopic appearance after complete resection) and specimens were sent to histopathology. The pathologist’s final report was non-Hodking lymphoma extranodal type MALT based on the immuhistochemistry: positive BCL2 (c), CD20, CD3, CD10, CD5, ki67, and negative cyclin D1. Patient underwent a computer tomography of the chest and abdomen which was normal and was referred to oncology department. Primary lymphoma of the colon is an exceedingly rare tumor of the gastrointestinal tract (0.2-1.2% of all colonic malignancies). The most common type of colonic lymphoma is the non-Hodking lymphoma [1].
