Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: Extracranial Acupuncture as a Possible Adjuvant Therapy

Zusammenfassung

Die amyotrophische Lateralsklerose (ALS) gilt als eine äußerst schwere Erkrankung, für die es keine wirkungsvolle Behandlung gibt.

Eine Reihe von extrakranialen Stimulationen mit Akupunkturnadeln bei ALS-Patienten mit unterschiedlich fortgeschrittener Erkrankung zeigte eine positive und lang andauernde therapeutische Wirkung, und zwar besonders in sieben Fällen, deren Fallberichte genauer beschrieben werden. Bei 20 von insgesamt 45 Patienten zeigte sich eine gewisse schwankende motorische Besserung.

Außerdem möchte ich hervorheben, dass es während der extrakranialen Stimulation einen Beweis für eine direkte und gleichzeitig sichtbare Reaktion auf die Akupunktur in Form einer unbeabsichtigten Bewegung des Körpers gab.

Die oben erwähnte positive therapeutische Erfahrung konnte ebenfalls auf die Behandlung anderer Erkrankungen des zentralen Nervensystems als eine adjuvante therapeutische Maßnahme angewendet werden.

Abstract

ALS is considered to be a devastating disease with no effective treatment available.

A series of extracranial stimulation with acupuncture needles on ALS-patients of different disease progression showed positive and long lasting therapeutic effects especially in seven cases whose case reports are described in detail. Twenty out of totally 45 patients showed some fluctuating motoric improvement.

In addition I point out that during extracranial stimulation there was evidence of a direct and simultaneously visible response to acupuncture as involuntary movement on the body.

The above positive therapeutic experience could also be applied to the treatment of other diseases of the central nervous system as one of adjuvant therapeutic measure.
