Die Tularämie (Hasenpest, Ohara-Krankheit, Lemming-Fieber) ist eine auf den Menschen übertragbare Zoonose, die durch die Infektion mit Francisella (F.) tularensis hervorgerufen wird. Sie wurde erstmalig im Jahre 1911 von G.W. McCoy bei Erdhörnchen im Tulare County, Kalifornien, als eine der Pest ähnliche Erkrankung beschrieben und später von Edward Francis intensiv untersucht [21]. In Deutschland stellt die Tularämie eine seltene, meldepflichtige Infektionserkrankung dar. Für den klinischen Verlauf ist eine möglichst frühe Erkennung der Symptome und eine labordiagnostische Bestätigung wichtig, um rechtzeitig eine effektive antibiotische Intervention einleiten zu können. Der nachfolgende Überblick soll die wichtigsten Merkmale der Tularämie in Erinnerung rufen und über neue labordiagnostische Möglichkeiten, die in den letzten Jahren entwickelt wurden, informieren.
