Introduction

There was a significant increase in the number of abstracts dealing with the topic of gastrointestinal bleeding that were presented at the Digestive Diseases Week (DDW) this year, making the task of selecting abstracts for detailed review more difficult. Priority has been given here to papers accepted for oral presentations, large meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials involving larger numbers of patients, descriptions of new techniques, and abstracts presenting data significantly differing from what is commonly known.
