In the literature the general opinion is to treat humeral shaft fractures conservatively. But in the literature 56 % of the humeral shaft fractures are treated operatively [7].

From 1990 till 2000 a total of 78 patients were treated for a humeral shaft fracture at the University Hospital Maastricht. The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate our treatment and our long term functional results.
