Dr. Bruce G. Wolff is a professor of surgery, Mayo Medical School, a consultant in colon and rectal surgery at the Mayo Clinic Foundation, Rochester, MN, and a major figure in our specialty. Bruce was born in Columbus, GA, and received his undergraduate degree from Davidson College. He earned his M.D. degree from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC. He served as an intern in anesthesia at Duke Medical Center and then completed a general surgery internship and residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. His residency was interrupted by 2 years of service in the U.S. Army. After completing his general surgery training, he received his fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at the Mayo Clinic Foundation in Rochester. He then joined the staff there.

Dr. Wolff has authored or coauthored over 200 publications. He is a member of multiple medical societies and is the president-elect of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. Dr. Wolff is an active researcher but still maintains a busy clinical practice in which the management of inflammatory bowel disease plays a major role. He also makes time to educate residents and medical students and has been recognized as a surgical subspecialty teacher of the year.

Bruce, his wife Vikki, their daughter Katie, and their sons Oscar and Charlie live in Rochester. Bruce has a passion for cars and owns over 10 classic vehicles. He also enjoys playing the five-string banjo and guitar and studying American history.

On behalf of the readers and staff of Clinics of Colon and Rectal Surgery, I thank Dr. Wolff for serving as a Guest Editor and for providing us with a superb issue on ulcerative colitis.
