Zusammenfassung
Die Prävention mit Omega-3-Fettsäuren nach einem Myokardinfarkt ist nach der Europäischen Gesellschaft für Kardiologie eine Indikation der Klasse I, Evidenzniveau B und steht damit fast auf der Stufe von Statinen oder β-Blockern, für die ein Evidenzniveau A vorliegt. Nach der GISSI-Prevenzione Studie beträgt die „Number Needed to Treat” (NNT) um einen Todesfall zu verhindern für Omega-3-Fettsäuren 167 Patienten pro Jahr, eine Größenordnung, die praktisch gleich mit der für ASS 100 mg (NNT 167) oder für Simvastatin in der 4S-Studie (NNT 164) ist. Ziel dieser Übersicht ist es, die Studienlage zur kardiovaskulären Prävention mit Omega-3-Fettsäuren im Sinne der evidenzbasierten Medizin sowie die pathophysiologischen Mechanismen für deren protektiven Effekt darzustellen.
