Abstract

The implementation of a hospital-based palliative care team in a university hospital requires a solid conception and excellent conditions, e.g. additional staff. A palliative care team should be multidisciplinary and the different professionals need high expertise to achieve acceptance in all departments. Regular meetings for teaching palliative care and supporting communication are helpful to clarify the profile of palliative care and keep relationships. There is a need for standardised documentation in German speaking areas to evaluate the effectiveness of palliative care consulting teams.
