angenommen.
Abstract
The frictional behaviour of bracket-archwire combinations is very complex and influenced
by many details. The influence of vibrations on the frictional behaviour of bracket-archwire
systems was investigated in this study. For this, commercially available brackets
were measured and classified according to their friction on a steel archwire. In doing
so, it became apparent that the bracket width as well as its material has an effect
on the friction. The oscillations of an electric toothbrush reduced the friction by
5 to 70 %. The achieved reduction depends upon the capacity of the toothbrush. As
vibrations caused by toothbrushes occur in humans everyday, it should be possible
to transfer the reduction of friction found in an in vitro measuring station to in
vivo conditions. In the mouth considerably lower friction values than assumed until
now result from the tooth mobility and the vibrations from daily life. Thus, the friction
values of in vitro studies detected until now show the worst case as they do not consider
these clinical conditions.
