Abstract

The ICF is a comprehensive classification which considers the areas of function, structure, activity and participation as well as the patient's environment in order to assess functional physical health. The impairment LBP belongs to the diseases which lead to the highest costs due to high rates of unfitness for work. Comprehensive patient management of functional problems aims at the improvement of this situation.

The first part of this article shows how the implementation of ICF Core Sets for LBP can support the optimised understanding of disease consequences and disability of patients with LBP. In addition, the correlation between the ICF and instruments used for the evaluation of physical health state are portrayed. This may support the process of assessment in therapy and rehabilitation.
