Intralesional Ethibloc Injections in Bone Cysts in Children

ABSTRACT

Benign bone cysts (aneurysmal and unicameral) often require treatment in order to prevent pathological fractures. Percutaneous injections are less invasive than surgery is, and different percutaneous treatments have been proposed, such as local injection of steroids, calcitonin, or bone marrow in unicameral bone cysts (UBCs) and Ethibloc injection in both UBCs and aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs). We describe the percutaneous Ethibloc injection in bone cysts in children, which appears to be an efficient method. Within the tumor, histological modifications usually occur after these injections because of the fibrogenic properties of the agent. Therefore, we emphasize the necessity of obtaining a histological proof before any injection, especially in ABCs.
