Zusammenfassung

In letzter Zeit häufen sich Hinweise darauf, dass eine verstärkte Bildung von freien Radikalen ursächlich mit Fällen von Infertilität, misslungener In-vitro-Befruchtungen, Fehlgeburten und Präeklampsien in Zusammenhang gebracht wird. Der Bericht diskutiert die einzelnen durch oxidativen Stress ausgelösten Komplikationen. In Anbetracht der in letzter Zeit vermehrt aufgetretenen Fälle von Präeklampsie weist die Autorin auf Möglichkeiten einer präventiven Supplementierung mit Antioxidantien hin.

Summary

Recently, excessive free radical generation has been linked to infertility, failure of in vitro fertilization, miscarriage and pre-eclampsia. In this short review, each of these potential complications of oxidative stress will be discussed. Particular emphasis will be placed on pre-eclampsia since recent evidence suggests that antioxidant supplements may contribute to prevention of this disorder.
