Significance

The authors demonstrated how the conformation can be used as a protecting group. Bromination of 1 with NBS occurs quantitatively at the more planarizable p-di-2-thienylbenzene ­subunit (DTB-α, see 4) despite of the electron­donating methyl group at the other subunit.
