Significance

Silaphenylmercuric triflate 2 was obtained by the reaction of compound 1 with Hg(OAc)2 in AcOH under microwave conditions, followed by anion exchange with TfOH (eq. 1). The cyclization of alkyne derivatives proceeded with catalyst 2 (5-20 mol% of Hg) to give the corresponding cyclic compounds in up to 99% yield (eq. 2, 9 examples).
