Significance

The enantioselective Michael addition is a highly important C-C bond formation reaction. Most reported asymmetric Michael additions employ expensive catalysts and/or metals along with several equivalents of nucleophiles that are required. Reported is a highly enantioselective, robust, alkaline earth metal catalyst Michael addition of malonates to chalcone derivatives.
