Significance

As an extension on previous research concerning the asymmetric synthesis of aliphatic alkynyl α-amino acid derivatives (Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 2005, 102, 11196), the authors now describe the copper-catalyzed three-component reaction between ethyl glyoxylate, 4-anisidine and alkynes. The β,γ-alkynyl α-amino acid derivatives are obtained in good yield and enantioselectivity.
