Significance

Previously reported dibenzoyldiethylgermane (DBDEG) can be polymerized to yield polygermanes with moderate molecular weights upon irradiation with visible light. The presented polygermanes can be used at the same time as macroinitiators for other radical polymerizations like the polymerization of styrene.
