Significance

Superparamagnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4) catalyzed the solvent-free Strecker reaction of TMSCN, aldehydes, and amines to afford the corresponding α-aminonitriles in up to 95% yield (18 examples). The reaction of (S)-1-phenylethylamine, benzaldehyde, and TMSCN proceeded to give 1j in 88% yield with 60% de.
