Significance

The dearomatization of arenes is recognized as a fundamentally important transformation providing alicyclic frameworks found in many biologically important compounds. The main strategy for the synthesis of these types of compounds requires the use of stoichiometric amounts of metal or reactive reagents, or additional steps to obtain these valuable products.
