Significance

Members of the phorbasin class of diterpenes inhibit Gram positive bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and Micrococcus luteuss. This first total synthesis of (+)-phorbasin C uses an allylic alcohol-alkyne reductive cross-coupling reaction a a key step and also determines the correct stereochemistry of the molecule.
