Fe-Catalyzed Oxidative Cyanation of Tertiary Amines

Significance

The authors demonstrate that environmentally benign iron salts efficiently activate C(sp^³)-H bonds next to a tertiary amine nitrogen atom, therefore enabling cross-coupling reactions with cyanide at room temperature in the presence of tert-butyl hydroperoxide. The resulting α-cyano amines are obtained in high yields.
