Significance

Dendric osmium complexes 3(Gn) were prepared from N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylethylenediamine 1 in two steps. The complex 3(G3) catalyzed the dihydroxylation of olefins 4 in the presence of NMO to afford the corresponding diols 5 in up to 94% yield (10 examples). In the reaction of 4a, the catalyst was recovered by reprecipitation and reused four times (4th reuse: 91% yield).
