Significance

Double-stranded oligonuclear copper(II) coordination complexes were prepared by self-assembly of copper(II) ions and oligo(2-methyl-1,3-phenyleneoxalamide) ligands. As a result of the ligand template effect, all the metal ions adopt a linear arrangement with the Cu˙˙˙Cu distances in the range of 7.20 to 7.40 Å. The copper(II) centers display alternating M or P helical chirality, resulting in achiral meso-helicates in the case of di- and tetranuclear complexes (2a and 2c) or a racemic mixture of M,P,M and P,M,P configurations for trinuclear 2b.
