Significance

Cross-coupling typically requires the prefunctionalization of one or both coupling partners. However, the authors present here the direct, dehydrogenative cross-coupling of two arene units. In this case, one coupling partner needs to be a polyfluoroarene unit and the other a simple arene (that does not require any activating substituents).
