Extended Porphyrins

Significance

The target structure was identified about 35 yeas ago as an interesting molecule. The synthesis is relatively straightforward, but makes use of bulky aromatic groups to give these extended structures solubility. In spite of these groups an X-ray crystal structure indicates that the macrocyclic structures have a tendency to stack on each other.
