Significance

A series of ‘ivyanes’ with three to eight cyclopropanes was synthesized in high yield from dendralenes in one step, using the trifluoroacetic acid activated zinc carbenoid method. Oligomeric ivyanes are shown to have helical structures and the interconversion between the right- and left-handed conformations was shown via X-ray and NMR spectroscopy analyses.
