Significance

Chiral acid catalyzed ring expansion of cyclohexanones remains a challenging process, as cyclohexanones are not prochiral substrates. The authors report the successful ­development of an aluminum catalyst system to achieve highly enantioselective ring expansion of cyclohexanones with α-diazoacetates.
