Intramolecular Ullmann Cross-Coupling Route to Fused Pyridoquinazolinones

Significance

Reported is the synthesis of pyrido-quinazolones using an intramolecular Ullmann-type cross-coupling reaction as the key step. The best yields for the reaction are obtained when aromatic bromides are used as coupling partners, although aromatic chlorides also afford products in somewhat lower yields. This method may be the shortest route to these tricyclic derivatives.
