Significance

(-)-Zampanolide was isolated in 1996 from the marine sponge Fasciospongia ­rimosa and is reported to block cell division in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle. Herein, a flexible enantioselective synthesis of (-)-zampanolide is reported, which enables modification of the N-acyl hemiaminal moiety.
