Significance

Functionalized 15-membered macrocycles 2 are generated in moderate to high yield by dissolving α-diazocarbonyl compounds 1 in oxetane (1 M) in the presence of a rhodium(II) catalyst. Further, hydrogenation of the unsaturated compound leads to 15-crown-4 analogues.
