Significance

Salinosporamide A is a metabolite of the recently discovered Salinospora strain of bacteria. The high in vitro cytotoxicity (IC50 approx. 10 nm) of salinosporamide A makes it an attractive synthetic target with the mode of action believed to be inhibition of the 20S proteosome.
