Significance
Selenocycle 1 forms a highly ordered thin film on a Si/SiO2 substrate upon vapor deposition, with individual molecules aligned nearly perpendicular to the substrate. In a p-type FET (Field Effect Transistor) device, the thin film exhibits relatively high hole mobilities (˜0.3 cm2 V-1 s-1) while being resistant to photo or thermal oxidation under ambient conditions; therefore, 1 is one of only few currently known, technologically feasible organic semiconductors.
